The soil is being eroded quicker than it can be replenished, making it one of the biggest challenges to sustainability.

A productive landscape increases the ecological value of a place but can also enhance the economy and create opportunities to produce renewable energy. It is flexible, experimental and easily adaptable to change; it re-configures itself as the landscape evolves. It forms an urban ecosystem which accommodates space for innovation and development often based on the industrial DNA of a site. It makes use of existing synergies and local available resources.
