A 5 hectare site by the U4 blast furnace of Uckange.

Located along the banks of the Moselle, near to Thionville and Luxembourg sits the site of the old factory in Uckange. The project involved making the steel industrial heritage of the Lorraine into a tourist attraction. The site has also recently hosted the ‘Tous les soleils’ installation by the plastic artist Claude Léveque.

The garden itself decontaminates the site (heavy metals, arsenic) and makes it safe to use by establishing different distances and barriers between the users and the contaminated zones.

The garden is made up of:

  • A hardscaped promenade which links the town centre to Moselle.
  • A large lawn which offers views of the U4 from various perspectives directed by alignments of the oak trees.
  • Planting in the foundations of the old factory, highlighting and framing the remnants.

Base was also commissioned by the Town of Uckange to produce an urban study for the development of the edges of the site.
